Craigneen Cottage is the second in a row of traditional fishermen's cottages set around the shore of this charming, once busy, fishing village, winner of the 2001 Community Village of the Year Award. Described by an old fisherman as "having the best site in the village", the cottage enjoys uninterrupted views across the bay, and to the harbour, and all rooms have sea views. There is one other cottage to the rear and beyond that the sea braes stretch for miles. Beautiful sunsets and ever changing scenery are just some of the many attractions - on clear days, the hills of Caithness can be seen in the distance, and on stormy days, it can be quite spectacular to watch the waves breaking over the harbour wall, from the comfort of the living room. There is an abundance of bird and wild life, and at certain times, dolphins and seals can be seen in the bays and inlets. . The area is ideal for cycling, walking, golfing and exploring. To the east, is the old county town of Banff, approximately 3 miles away. Duff House mansion, designed by William Adam and now completely refurbished and open to the public as a country house and art gallery, is near to Duff House golf club and a short distance further on, at Macduff, is the Royal Tarlair golf club. Also at Macduff, there is a fine Marine Aquarium, which is well worth a visit. In the opposite direction, you can choose to cycle, or drive, along the back roads to Portsoy, famous for its marble and where the harbour is now used by pleasure craft, or go by car or the local bus, along the main road, and explore the numerous other fishing villages along this stretch of coastline. The cottage sleeps 4 with provision for an extra child, and consists of an L-shaped sitting room and kitchen/dining area on the ground floor and 2 bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor. Heating is by night storage heaters with the addition of a gas fire in the sitting room. Adjoining the cottage is an outhouse, formerly used for mending nets, it is now a store, and not included in the rental. There is a drying green to the rear, which is available for guests use. The Living Room has a, settee, two occasional chairs, wall unit, corner TV unit, nest of tables, gas fire, storage heater, colour TV, Freeview box, DVD, video and music centre. The Kitchen/Dining area has ample cupboard space (a new kitchen was installed in 2001), also an electric cooker, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, automatic washing machine, iron, electric kettle, toaster, and crockery and cutlery to cater for six people.
